Now as we all know Japan was hit with a major catastrophe not too long ago and many people and places have done their best to help out. Now everyone has helped in different ways and the Tomo Neko Maid Café is no exception. The men and women of the Tomo Neko Maid Café had recently put on a performance in which the proceeds would go to the Yoshiki Foundation which provides relief to the victims in Japan. Now of course there was more than just a basket being passed around. Not only were you fed you also saw a plethora of entertainment from some of the up and comers in comedy, song and dance. Also throwing in a little bit of culture and of course who can forget the lovely ladies (and butlers) in their respective outfits. If you didn’t
show up you missed out but that’s why I’m here. The event started off with a musical number from the Ajuku Girls
(http://www.twitter.com/ajukugirls). They are an American JPOP group and they were very energetic with their performance. They came out with their extremely colorful outfits and mixed Japanese/English songs and really wowed everyone. After they finished their set we were introduced to the men and women who were serving us and we were fed. Now maybe pop music isn’t your thing and hey that’s not a bad thing at all. However, who doesn’t like a laugh? We got almost a whole hour of comedy from three very good comedians. Anton Tores, Matthew Johnson and Gerardo Paz kept the crowd in stitches. If you haven’t heard of them look them up on YouTube. All of them have been in many competitions and have put on many shows so it’s worth the look. Of course you after a while things need to slow down and what better a way than to enjoy the movement of Miyuki Matsunaga. She has created a new style of performing arts by blending traditional Japanese dance, modern dance and Japanese poetry and acting techniques into what is known as GETA DANCE. She was very impressive and I was awestruck by the pure emotion that was displayed in her dance. Although if you were there you know that nerds can’t clap on rhythm.
Well after a while everything began to wound down. They had a raffle and of course I didn’t win a prize. However, besides my bad luck to end a show with the maids and butlers doing a re-enactment of Time Warp from the Rocky Horror Picture Show more than made up for it. It was a fun event and if another event is made it is worth the price. It is fun and you meet plenty of people. Hopefully we’ll see more of them as well.
