For most of the population, there’s no place to do battles. No foreground to lay smack down. No backalley to street fight, without risking being arrested. But for Gamers in the Los Angeles area, there’s a new arena to hone your skills and due battle with newcomers, up and comers, and even some of gaming’s elite. I give you “Wednesday Night Fights”.
This circle of fighting game glory is currently housed in The Proud Bird located off of Century on Aviation. And every Wednesday it fills with gamers fighting to better their skills and hopefully win the nightly tournaments. $6 seems like nothing for 5 hours of gaming, going head to head with people who see fighting games as an intellectual art with technical skill.
Hosted by LevelUp and run by Alex “CaliPower” Valle and Daniel “SHGLBMX” Tam, Wednesday Night Fights has been running for almost 3 years now and has cemented itself as a staple gaming platform within the community. Its regularly broadcasted at http://www.justin.tv/leveluplive.
Wednesday Night Fight features as its most popular games Super Street Fighter 4, Marvel VS Capcom 3, and newly released Mortal Kombat 9. But Wednesday Night Fights also has other games such as Marvel VS Capcom 2 and Arcana Arch, which can be found on disk or the harddrives of the systems used there. They also allow and encourage you to bring and set up your own fighting game for training and play against others in the community.
Focused on the collective growth of the gaming community and the leveling up of its peoples skills, Wednesday Night Fights is a fun and welcoming place for new and old gamers to be a part of something larger and more personable, while still making their own skills greater.
