Black Power: A Tribute To My Favorite Black Heroes

Blade

Blade

Being a lover of all things vampire, Blade has always had a special place in my heart. Whether he’s slaying the blood thirsty undead with Van Helsing, or cleaning up New Orleans with Black Panther, Blade is a true dark knight who’s polished fighting technique and twisted humor have kept me amazed for years on end.

Static Shock: Virgil Ovid Hawkins/Static

Static Shock

Static Shock was part of my weekend cartoon lineup as a kid. I was actually quite sad when the show got cancelled. I love Static because he was the geek boy that everyone doubted, and eventually he made his way into Justice League and Teen Titans. If you ever get the chance, do check out the show, you won’t be disappointed.

Crimson Avenger: Jill Carlyle

Crimson Avenger

God I love a powerful woman with brains. This criminal attorney turned teleporting vigilante uses the weapons formerly owned by the Crimson Avenger to seek and destroy those who have taken innocent lives.

Hancock: John Hancock

Hancock

While I wasn’t the biggest fan of the movie, this character is really inspiring. John Hancock struggles with addiction, but eventually turns his life around and wins the respect of the very people he’s trying to save. Kudos for a story with good moral lessons.

Captain Planet: Kwame

Kwame

Thank you, Kwame, for being such a kind spirit and a voice of reason. Your love for the well-being of the planet and words of inspiration were just what the Planeteers needed to keep fighting the good fight.
